Meals on wheels staff and volunteers will be getting into the festive spirit at a celebratory Christmas event at 10.30am, Thursday 8th December, at the Chequered Flag Café on the Dovenby Hall Estate in Cockermouth.
Malcolm Wilson will be joining staff and volunteers as they prepare Christmas food parcels generously funded by the Slater Trust. Father Christmas and other willing volunteers (possibly even an elf or two!) will then deliver the hampers along with the regular meals on wheels service.
County councillor Oliver Pearson, cabinet spokesperson for Adult Social Care says:
"Cumbria County Council work hard with our partners to provide meals on wheels across the county. Meals are delivered by community based volunteers and the WRVS. The meals on wheels service provides invaluable support to frail and vulnerable people in the community.
Everyone can play their part in helping frail and elderly people this Christmas by being a good neighbour and ensuring that we are aware of the needs of others, especially elderly or vulnerable people living close by."
Alison Jackson, Cumbria’s meals on wheels manager said:
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all meals on wheels volunteers for their support and continued goodwill and thank the Slater Trust for their generous donation. At this special time of year I would like to wish all our clients and volunteers a very merry and safe Christmas."
The meals on wheels service needs volunteer drivers and helpers throughout Cumbria. For more information please call:
