9/12/2005 - Allerdale Local Committee chips in for Wigton and Keswick town centres

Improvements to the safety and security of Wigton and Keswick moved a step closer today after Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Allerdale agreed to contribute towards upgrades to the CCTV facilities in both towns.

Both Wigton and Keswick's Market Town Initiative Partnerships were awarded £1000 to help fund upgrades in the CCTV facilities in the town centres.

Both proposals require approximately £10,000 of funding with the Partnerships also seeking funding from Allerdale Borough Council, the Crime and Disorder Partnership, respective Town Councils and local businesses.

County Councillor Gerald Humes, Chairman of Allerdale Local Committee, says:

"These proposals for upgrades to the CCTV systems in Wigton and Keswick can make a genuine contribution to the safety and security of the two town centres. They can help to reduce crime and vandalism and make people and businesses in the centres feel safer.

We are delighted to be able to make these contributions to two important schemes. We are committed to improving the quality of life for people across Allerdale and will work with our partners to help deliver that aim."
