14/12/2005 - Botcherby's budding artists rewarded

Budding young artists and designers in Botcherby will be celebrating this week as the winners of Cumbria County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service’s Action Ward Poster Competition are announced.

The Fire and Rescue Service arranged the competition as part of their ongoing Action Ward Initiative in Botcherby and ran it in partnership with the Botcherby and Harraby Healthy Living Initiative.

The posters have now been judged and the winners of each category will by presented with their £50 worth of Argos vouchers at presentations over the next week. The winners will receive their prize from Firefighters from Carlisle’s Green and White Watches and Youth Workers from the Botcherby and Harraby Healthy Living Initiative.

The presentations will take place in Botcherby Community Centre at:

19.00 - Thursday 15th December (Senior Category)
16.30 –Friday 16th December (After School Club)
19.00 –Monday 19th December (Junior Category)

County councillor Geoff Hodgson, spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Service says:

“The aims of our Action Ward Initiative include reducing anti-social behaviour and creating safer, stronger, communities. Getting young people involved in the scheme and giving them the opportunity to take part in positive and productive activities has helped achieve this. There were a lot of excellent entries into the poster competition and I would like to congratulate all the winners.”

The Action Wards Initiative focuses further efforts on four specific Cumbrian communities in a bid to drive forward the service’s fire prevention and community safety messages. In Carlisle the Botcherby Ward is benefiting from the six-month programme.
