A new Fellrunner bus for the Eden Valley is officially launched on Monday 21st February at Hazel Dene Garden Centre in Culgaith at 12pm.
The new bus has arrived after a £10,000 grant from Cumbria County Council's local committee for Eden. For the last 25-years Fellrunner has provided bus services for more than 40 villages in the Eden Valley. The three Fellrunner buses on the various services in the area are managed and driven by volunteers. The service would not be possible without the hard work given free by everyone involved.
Because the service is run by volunteers it needs little extra funding. However the county council and other organisations have helped the Fellrunner to buy new buses when needed.
Gary Strong Chairman of the local committee will be joined by Vice Chair, Roger Bird and members of the Fellrunner committee to launch the 16 seater Optare Alero. Mr Strong said:
"The county council's local committee for Eden stepped in to help with the purchase of this new bus as it is such an important service for the people in the Eden Valley who would otherwise have no bus services. We were aware that Fellrunner were having difficulties and we are delighted to be able to help in this way. The county council is committed to helping people in rural communities get around and feel that this service is an important lifeline for the community. We wanted to make sure this service continued."
