On Saturday 26th February, one of Longtown's oldest residents, Phylis Telford celebrates her 100th birthday. Staff at the home are throwing a birthday party to celebrate.
Phylis is a resident at Cumbria Care's Eskdale House residential home in Longtown. She is originally from Dumfries but lived in the Stanwix area of Carlisle until a few years ago. Phylis was a great walker and walked to her job as manageress at Eden Fruit Stores, Bank Street in Carlisle every day. She also worked as a florist, something she still enjoys and often gives staff at the home help and advice with flower arranging.
County councillor, Tim Heslop, cabinet spokesman for Cumbria Care said:
"It’s incredible to think that Phylis has experienced 100 years of history and culture. From the sinking of the ‘Titanic’ and two World Wars to the introduction of the mobile phone and microwave dinners! Its wonderful that a party has been organised to celebrate this special occasion. I would like to wish her a very happy birthday."
