Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for Barrow today agreed to provide £2,000 to plan the way forward for Dalton-in-Furness.
The committee approved a grant of £2,000 to help the Dalton Development Partnership pay for a specialist consultant to draw up a strategy for the future development of the town.
The Dalton Development Project aims to create an attractive, distinctive and vibrant town centre, improve access to the town by road and public transport, support the local economy and make the best use of its assets such as Dalton Castle, Tudor Square, the wildlife park, Furness Abbey, Colony Candles and Sandscale Haws.
Funds are also being sought from Barrow Borough Council and Dalton Town Council.
Bill Smith, county councillor for Dalton South and a member of Dalton Development Partnership, said: "This is a worth while project to bring some joined-up thinking and partnership working to bare in planning future development of the town."
