Cumbria County Council has donated £50,000 to the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund to help householders affected by the recent bad weather. The decision to make the donation and focus the council's financial support through the fund was made on Monday afternoon and supported by all political parties on the council. It was agreed as the most effective way of getting financial support to those most affected.
County Council leader Tim Stoddard says;
"The Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund launched earlier this week is an excellent way for organisations, businesses and individuals to give support to those in most need. Cumbria Community Foundation who are running the appeal have first class experience, gained during the foot and mouth crisis, of identifying those most at need and targeting money appropriately.
The county council believes this is the most effective method of distributing financial support and would encourage people to make applications direct to the Fund. Our own Neighbourhood Development Officers will be more than happy to help local people complete applications etc."
