19/1/2005 - Local committee reducing drivers' speed to improve safety

Today, Cumbria County Council's local committee for Eden agreed to introduce a 30mph speed limit in the villages of Long Marton and Brampton to improve public safety. This has been done in partnership with the Parsh Council.

Alongside the speed restriction the local committee also agreed to introduce a one way restriction on Back Lane in Long Marton to reduce traffic and improve visibility along that stretch of road.

Chairman of the local committee, councillor Gary Strong said:

"This committee has encouraged the implementation of speed limits throughout many villages across the area to improve public safety. This has been done in partnership with the Parish Councils. After the consultation, there was agreement from all involved that this was the best way forward to reduce traffic, slow down drivers and all in all improve the safety of people living in these villages."
