The authentic 'taste of the East' comes to Netherhall School this week when Cumbria Contract Services launches a special lunchtime menu.
Cumbria Contract Services provide school meals on behalf of Cumbria County Council to Netherhall School. All this week students and teachers will be able to enjoy delicious menus with traditional dishes from Japan, Pakistan, China, South Korea and India. A contribution from each 'taste of the East' meal served will also go towards the Tsunami disaster appeal.
County councillor Tim Heslop, cabinet spokesman for Cumbria Contract Services said:
"This is a great way for young people to gain an insight into far Eastern culture and food. I hope that many students and teachers have lunch at the school this week not only to try out these great menus but to raise as much money as we can to go towards the Tsunami disaster appeal."
David Sibbit, Headteacher at Netherhall School said:
"I am very pleased that the partnership with our catering supplier has created this innovative opportunity for our students. Sampling food from other countries of the world is an excellent and enjoyable way of learning about different cultures and customs. Staff and students alike at Netherhall, as everywhere else in the country, were shocked and saddened by the terrible devastation and loss of life in the tsunami disaster, and have been helping to raise funds this term. The contribution from each meal will add to this effort, and help those in need in the far East."
