Today, Cumbria County Council's local committee for Carlisle supported four early years providers to the tune of £3,430.
The early years groups benefiting from this money are:
1. Munchkins Nursery School - £1500 towards new equipment for a new classroom/activity room at the nursery
2. Yewdale Pre-school and Playgroup Nursery - £665 towards new equipment for its new 'quiet area' for the children
3. East Cumbria Family Support Association - ££466 towards the cost of CRB checks for 22 volunteers
4. Great Corby Childcare Management Group - £799 towards emergency lighting in the areas of school used by the After School Club
Chairing the meeting, county councillor Kevan Wilkinson said:
"There is a growing demand for childcare, however the facilities provided must meet the needs of the parents as well as being affordable. The county council continues to support many of these groups so parents can go to work or take up training feeling confident that they are leaving their child in a safe and friendly environment."
