Over the last few months hundreds of primary school children have been planning towards their 'big move' to secondary school.
Cumbria County Council's education welfare service has devised a brand new six week programme working with year 6 pupils to assist and support them through the transition from primary to secondary.
The programme looks at issues like friendship, assertiveness, bullying, school rules and attendance plus incorporating any issues that might be concerning the pupils regarding the move to secondary school.
County councillor Philip Chappelhow, cabinet spokesman for children's services said:
"It's a big step for children going from primary school to secondary school and can be very nerve-racking for some. This programme will prepare all children for a smooth transition enabling pupils to achieve their full potential by dispelling those fears and concerns making the step into secondary schools less daunting."
