18/7/2005 - New refurbished scout hut for 13th Carlisle Scout Group

Members of the 13th Carlisle (Trinity School) Scout Group will benefit from a completely refurbished and redecorated scout hut thanks to funding support from five neighbourhood forums.

Around £1800 was donated to the group from Belah and Lowry Hill, Stanwix Urban, Harraby and Longtown and Bewcastle and Wetheral and Stanwix rural neighbourhood forums earlier this year. The hut now has new kitchen units, new toilets including a disabled cubical and new flooring throughout. Around 80 beavers, cubs and scouts aged 6 - 14 are in the groups and will benefit from the new facilities.

County councillor Cyril Weber, chairman of Carlisle Local Committee said:

"I am delighted that this Scout group now has a newly refurbished scout hut to use. Neighbourhood forums give community groups an opportunity to apply for funding for various projects that will benefit the local community. All five forums gave a contribution depending on how many members of the 13th Carlisle Scout group were in the particular forum area."

Mike Tuer, Group Scout Leader said:

"Without the support of the neighbourhood forums we would not have been able to tackle such a major undertaking. Their support was instrumental in prime pumping a project that has cost in excess of £6k. Due to the generosity of a wide range of sponsors who either gave large discounts on goods or donated everything from kitchen units to paint brushes we have been able to complete the project with the help of a large group of volunteer parents."
