Cumbrian women will be encouraged to consider a career in the county’s Fire and Rescue Service at recruitment events in Workington Sports Centre.
The Sports Centre will be hosting information and recruitment sessions, specifically tailored for prospective female Firefighters, on Monday 25 July and Thursday 4 August between 4.00pm and 8.00pm.
The sessions are aimed at raising awareness of the Fire & Rescue Service as a career and will present an opportunity for visitors to talk to existing female Firefighters. The staff at the event will be happy to answer questions about all aspects of the recruitment process and the varied work of a Firefighter.
Adele Gorman, a Firefighter based in Carlisle says:
"I would urge other women to come along and see what life in the Fire and Rescue Service is like. I wanted a job that was going to be different and bring a new challenge each day. I’ve always been sporty so the physical side of the role was an attraction. The idea of being part of a team was really appealing too. Most of all though, I wanted a job that would help people and that I could be proud to be a part of."
"The work can be more diverse than people might think. We do a lot of Community Fire Safety work, which involves home safety visits, school visits, open days, summer fairs and other events. We also drill and obviously must be ready to respond to calls as well."
If anyone can’t make it to the Workington events there are alternative sessions across the county at:-
Kendal Leisure Centre - 26 July and 2 August between 4.00pm and 8.00pm
Cannons Gym, Barrow - 27 July between 4.00pm and 8.00pm.
Sands Centre Carlisle - 28 July and 3 August between 4.00pm and 8.00pm
Whitehaven Sports Centre - 1 August between 4.00pm and 8.00pm.
Please come along to one of these events and see what the Fire and Rescue Service has to offer.
