Many young people across the Carlisle area will benefit from new projects and facilities after Cumbria County Council's local committee for Carlisle today endorsed five neighbourhood forum grants to the tune of £8,700.
The projects receiving the money are as follows:
1. Caldew School - £1500 towards its summer camp
2. Wigton Road Methodist Church - £1000 towards equipment for its youth club and a new holiday club for children aged 6 - 16
3. William Howard School - £700 towards a student exchange trip to Tanzania
4. Belah Community Centre - £3,500 towards its youth worker project
5. Living Well Trust - £2000 towards new equipment for the youth bus
The local committee also agreed to grant £2,000 to Brampton Youth Project to go towards the Brampton Youth Shelter offering a range of activities for young people in the area.
County councillor Cyril Weber, chairman of the local committee said:
"Projects like these give young people a great opportunity to learn new things and meet new people. Neighbourhood forums enable voluntary and other organisations to apply for funding to go towards educational trips, new equipment or just to get a kick start to set up new schemes that benefit not only the young people but local communities as a whole."
Any organisation wanting to apply for a grant should contact the county council's area support team in Carlisle on 01228 606474.
