Today, Cumbria County Council's local committee for Carlisle agreed to support next year's Festival of nations to the tune of £2,000.
The money will go towards funding Bangladeshi performers to visit the city to take part in the event and raise cultural awareness in the community.
The event is organised by Carlisle City Council and will be held in Carlisle City Centre between 3rd and 9th July 2006.
County councillor Reg Watson, local councillor for St Aidans said:
"The Bangladeshi musicians and dancers will not only perform at the festival but will spend tow weeks in Carlisle promoting their culture visiting schools and talking to the children. The performers haven't been able to attend this event in previous years due to lack of funding so I am delighted that the local committee has been able to help this year."
