Cumbria County Council’s Library Service will be smashing its traditional silence and causing a commotion as their "Make a Noise in Libraries" hits Allerdale’s Libraries.
Make a Noise in Libraries events begin when the Appleby based Music Vision Project plays at Maryport Library between 11.00 and 12.00, Monday 11th July. The project’s musicians are playing at all the main libraries across Cumbria throughout July and will return to Allerdale to play at Workington Library between 10.00 and 11.30, Friday 15th July.
The Music Vision Project helps people with disabilities and mental health problems to have more self-confidence through composing and performing music.
Some of the Music Vision Project musicians will be playing their own compositions and everyone is invited to come along and enjoy their music.
Roger Bingham, Cumbria County Council spokesman for Libraries says:
"Cumbria’s libraries have become important and vibrant centres for the communities they serve, with a varied schedule of events throughout the year. We are delighted to welcome the Music Vision Project and encourage everyone who can to come along and enjoy their music on the day."
Two reading sessions will also be held, in Moorclose Library on Tuesday 12th July (17.00-19.00), and Workington Library on Wednesday 20th July. They are particularly aimed at encouraging visually impaired people to make the most of the library services. Staff will be on hand to recommend large print or audio books and help people access the talking newspapers. An internet taster session, using improved screen facilities for the visually impaired, will also go ahead earlier in the day at Workington Library (13.00-17.00).
Everyone is invited to come along and share their knowledge of books, meet new people, and get the most from their local library.
