People in Halbankgate will be able to click into the library when they pop into their local shop.
Cumbria County Council's library service is launching a "Library Link" scheme tomorrow (15th June) in the Food Store, Halbankgate, at 3.00pm. Local people will be joined by county councillors to get the new service underway.
Library Links brings services closer to home for people living in rural parts of the county. Computers are installed in local shops and sub-post offices alongside a store of books which is updated weekly. The computers provide a direct link to the library service and its full catologue. Local people can loan books in the shop, order books from the main catalogue and renew existing loans.
County Councillor Roger Bingham, Cabinet portfolio holder for culture and communities says:
“Library links are an important part of Cumbria County Council’s continuing efforts to improve library services in rural areas and support existing local services. It means library services are available during the opening hours of each host venue, allowing users to have much greater access to services than we have traditionally been able to provide. Its good to see the scheme extending across the county and I'm sure it will be a great success in Halbankgate.”
