21/6/2005 - Community involved in local priorities

Cumbria County Council is looking for volunteers to co-ordinate an action plan for Denton Holme & Longsowerby to take forward priorities identified in the area's 'Have your Say' survey.

Residents will receive an update on the results of the survey at the next neighbourhood forum meeting on Thursday 23rd June in Morley Street Community Centre at 7pm.

The survey asked residents about what they want to see to improve the area. An action plan is now being prepared looking at how issues such as roads and transport, health, crime and policing, children and young people, the local environment and community facilities, can be addressed.

Local county councillor, Hugh McDevitt said:

"The city and county councils carried out a survey which was distributed to every household in the area on a range of issues. This survey now provides us with vital information about local people's views. We would like to hear from anyone interested in co-ordinating some of the actions to form a steering group and take this forward."

Other issues on the agenda include:

1. Environmental Services - Mike Battersby, Head of Commercial and Technical Services at Carlisle City Council will be at the meeting to answer any queries residents may have on environmental issues.

2. Flood update and Police matters - Residents can air their views to local councillors, community police and local authority officers.

3. Grants to voluntary organisations - local non-profit making and community groups can access funding for projects from the forum budget.

Anyone wanting to know more about the forum or apply for a grant should contact the county council's area support team in Carlisle on 01228 606317 or check out www.cumbria.gov.uk/neighbourhoodforums.
