14/3/2005 - Safer communities priority for neighbourhood forum

Community safety, policing and safety in the home will be the main topic for discussion at the next neighbourhood forum meeting for Harraby.

The meeting will be held on Friday 18th March at 11am at Harraby Community Centre on Edgehill Road in Carlisle.

County councillor Michael Richardson, chairman of the forum said:

"A lot of people feel that the issue of reducing crime is the responsibility of the Police. However the county council, other partner agencies as well as local people also have a role to play in the prevention of crime and disorder.

We all want to make sure that the communities we live in are safe for everyone by reducing crime and disorder through involving the community and partnership working. I am delighted that Stephen Wright, the community safety officer for Cumbria Police is attending the next forum meeting as well as our community police officer. Any local resident can raise any issue or concern they may have in the neighbourhood. I hope people will take the opportunity to come along on Friday.

Normal grant applications to community groups and projects will also be considered at the meeting. For more information or to apply for a grant please contact the county council's area support team in Carlisle on 01228 606474.
