14/3/2005 - New community minibus for Kirkby Lonsdale

Community groups in Kirkby Lonsdale are to benefit from a new minibus when Councillor Oliver Pearson, Chairman of South Lakes Local Committee, hands over the keys for the new bus at the next neighbourhood forum for the area.

The launch will be prior to the forum meeting at 6.45pm in the Barbon Methodist School Room on Tuesday 15th March.

The minibus will be made available to voluntary organisations to use through Community Transport South Lakeland. Funding for the minibus was provided by South Lakes Local Committee and the Countryside Agency and cost £36k.

Councillor Pearson said:

"I am delighted that the local committee has been able to provide funding towards this bus, which will help many community groups across the area. Community owned mini buses provide added value and enable access to activities that enhance people’s lives such as learning, health care and sport. The need for these buses has been clearly identified by the community through the neighbourhood forums and should ensure they are well used."

Anyone wanting to hire a community minibus should contact Mary Gough at Community Transport South Lakeland on 01539 735598.
