Cumbria County Council's neighbourhood forum for the Vale of Eden area is encouraging local residents to air their views on a proposed traffic calming scheme on the A6 at Plumpton.
The draft proposals are designed to reduce traffic speed and improve road safety and includes; a reduction to the speed limit; improved street lighting; improved road markings and vehicle activated signs.
Plans of the draft scheme are available at:
Cumbria Highways Office, Clint Mill, Corn Market, Penrith, and
Cumbria County Council's Area Support Office, St Andrews Churchyard, Penrith
Penrith Library, St Andrews Churchyard, Penrith
It will cost in the region of £50,000 funded from the Transport Capital Programme budget. The scheme is provisionally programmed to start during 2007/08 financial year. Preparation work is currently being carried out to ensure that any barriers to delivery are overcome and an acceptable scheme is designed that can be delivered when the funding is available.
County councillor Bert Richardson, chairman of the forum said:
"This proposed scheme was discussed at our last forum meeting on 3rd March. However, we want to encourage as many people as we can to have a look at the proposed plans and let us know what they think. The scheme aims to improve road safety along this stretch of road. We will consider all comments and see how they can be incorporated into the scheme design before discussing it again at a future neighbourhood forum meeting."
Anyone wanting to air their views on the proposals can do so through the Highways Hotline on 08456096609.
