2/3/2005 - More than £5k to early years groups in Eden

Cumbria County Council's local committee for Eden today agreed to grant more than £5k to five early years groups in Eden.

The groups benefiting from this money are:

1. Askham Pre-school - £1100 to expand the outdoor area so foundation stage curriculum can be delivered outdoors as recommended by Ofsted.

2. Kirkby Stephen Pre-school - £1235 to provide resources to develop children's cultural awareness

3. Upper Eden Childminding Group - £1000 to provide the children with a wide variety of new exciting equipment including multi-cultural costumes and music facilities

4. East Cumbria Family Support Association - £632 to carry out criminal record bureau checks on staff

5. North Stainmore Nursery - £1150 to provide a series of music sessions for the children

County councillor Gary Strong, Chairman of the local committee said:

"Today’s funding decisions highlight the county council's commitment to early years development in local communities. All of the schemes supported are of benefit to local people and promote social inclusion for parents and early education and play opportunities for young children.

These voluntary groups provide essential childcare services, which are affordable and meet the needs of families. They work extremely hard and I am delighted that the local committee has been able to continue to support them in this way."
