23/3/2005 - See the Universe from Kendal Library

As part of Cumbria County Council Library Service's ongoing programme of spring events, Kendal Library will welcome renowned astronomer, writer and broadcaster Stuart Atkinson as he takes his audience on a breathtaking tour of the galaxy and beyond.

Stuart will be speaking in the Gallery at 7.30pm, April 1st. Using a mixture of stunning photographs taken by NASA space probes and the very latest 'space art' paintings Stuart will show such wonders as the 'Valles Marineris' (an enormous Martian valley dubbed the Grand Canyon of the solar system) and the 'Great Red Spot' (a hurricane in Jupiter's atmosphere that has been blowing for four centuries and is three times bigger than Earth). There will also be a chance for the audience to see and hold genuine meteorites.

Stuart is the author of seven childrens astronomy and space books and has his own 'Skywatching' column in Cumbria Life magazine. He can also regularly be heard on CFM and Radio Cumbria.

Get there early and make sure you don't miss an evening that is certain to be out of this world.
