2/3/2005 - Cumbria Waste Management settles with DEFRA

Cumbria County Council welcomes the news that Cumbria Waste Management has reached agreement over money owed to the company by DEFRA.

The company, which is wholly owned by Cumbria County Council, announced it had reached a settlement with the ministry today, Wednesday, 2nd March.

As the owner of the company the county council is pleased that agreement has been reached over outstanding accounts from the foot-and-mouth crisis in 2001.

The county council will now be meeting CWM directors to discuss the implications for the company's financial position and its dividend policy.

Cumbria County Council is still in negotiations with DEFRA over its own outstanding accounts from the foot-and-mouth crisis.
