More than 70 children and young people `looked after’ by Cumbria County Council will celebrate their achievements at a special fun day and awards ceremony. The event will be held at North Lakes Hotel in Penrith on Sunday 13th March from 10.30am.
The achievements are diverse and some completely amazing. One ten year old boy has completed a circus skills workshop, and a thirteen year old boy has been in the army cadets for a year. A fifteen year old girl now has an orange and green belt in jujitsu and a seventeen year old girl has presented at a national conference for looked after children.
The children from all over Cumbria live in foster care or residential units. They will be joined by 40 carers, members of staff, and County Councillor Anne Parker, Chair of the Members Children's Forum. Anne is looking forward to presenting the awards. She said:
"Cumbria County Council is committed to supporting vulnerable children and their carers. I am delighted that we were able to hold this celebration of achievement and I am looking forward to presenting the awards on Sunday. Not only will we see so many children and young people receive awards for their wonderful achievements but there will be plenty of entertainment to enjoy throughout the day. The youngsters will be releasing 150 balloons, each having a label with a personal achievement attached to it. The day will be filled with entertainment with performances from the children and young people as well as entertainment from The Barracudas."
If you find a purple or red balloon, please ring the Children's Rights Officer on 01539 773352 to let her know its final destination.
