Cumbria County Council has agreed to step-in and help resolve the situation at Scotby School.
The move follows a request from the Carlisle primary school's governing body for the council to take over in dealing with issues surrounding the suspension in July of Scotby's head teacher Ian MacKay.
Moira Swann, the recently appointed director of Cumbria County Council's Children's Service, said:
"I am pleased that the governors have asked for our support. We will work with their representatives and with Mr MacKay's representatives to try to resolve the issues as quickly as possible. As long as both parties agree to our involvement we will be able to contribute our impartial expertise and experience. We want the school to be free from these issues and focussed on the well-being of all the children."
Scotby School is a church foundation school and the governing body is responsible for the employment of staff. Cumbria County Council Local Education Authority has no legal power to intervene at the school and can only get involved in resolving the issues with the agreement of all parties.
