9/11/2005 - First meeting of the School Organisation Forum

The first meeting of the new Cumbria School Organisation Forum took place last week. This Cumbria wide strategic group comprises a wide range of partners and is concerned that schools in the future should provide improved outcomes and more effective provision of children’s services for young people and their families.

In September Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet looked at how the crucial issue of the increasing number of surplus places in our schools could be tackled. They decided that this should be addressed by a strategic process which allows for local involvement. The approach will involve all schools, and very wide consultation with stakeholders. It will take into account early feasibility work already undertaken in Carlisle and Barrow.
