16/11/2005 - Residents views sought on Aspatria's Community Travel Plan

Cumbria County Council is asking the residents of Aspatria to help shape the future of travel and transport in and around the town. A meeting to identify transport needs and explain proposals for a “Community Travel Plan” in Aspatria will be held at 7.00pm on Wednesday 23rd November at Beacon Hill School.

Community Travel Plans have been identified as a way of responding to the unique travel needs of each community. They will look at local transport issues and the current and future requirements of the people living and working there.

Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Allerdale is piloting the concept of Community Travel Plans in four areas of the borough, including Aspatria.

Residents and groups active in the community are invited to raise issues and concerns and outline their needs. These will then be put together on a map of the area, which will be used to drive forward the Community Travel Plan.

County councillor Gerald Humes, chair of Allerdale Local Committee says:

“There is no generic approach to these Community Travel Plans; they will be tailored to meet the individual needs of the communities concerned. They should address the issues that are relevant to the people living and travelling in the local area.

This approach makes it very important that people have their say about the existing travel problems and the measures that the Community Travel Plan should include. I hope people can make time to come along to the meeting on Wednesday night.”
