17/11/2005 - Waste reduction and recycling priority for neighbourhood forum

Residents in the Belah and Lowry Hill area will be able to find out how they can help with waste minimisation and recycling at the next neighbourhood forum meeting.

A representative from Carlisle City Council will be at the meeting to go through the options available to reduce the amount of landfill waste in Carlisle and what the public can do to help.

Local county councillor Alan Toole said:

"Cumbria is at risk of receiving fines if no action is taken to reduce landfill waste.  We need to act now and as well as the local authorities, members of the public can play an important part to reduce the amount of waste collected.  I would urge anyone who wants to find out more about the implications and how they can get involved to come along to the meeting on Tuesday."

Other items on the agenda include:

1.  Police matters
2.  Carlisle Renaissance
3.  Grants to voluntary and community groups

The forum will meet in Belah Community Centre on 22nd November at 7pm.  Anyone wanting to know more information about the forum should contact the county council's area support team for Carlisle on 01228 606317.
