24/11/2005 - Longtown residents hear more about waste minimisation and recycling

Residents in Longtown and surrounding areas can hear more about how they can get involved in reducing the amount of waste going to landfill sites at the next neighbourhood forum meeting.

Mike Gardner from Carlisle City Council will be at the meeting on Wednesday 30th November to give a presentation on waste minimisation and recycling.

Local county councillor Geoff Prest said: 

"This county already faces the risk of fines if we do not work together and all do our bit to reduce landfill waste.  I would urge anyone who wants to know more about what they can do to help or ask any questions on this issue to come along to the meeting on Wednesday."

Other items on the agenda include: 

1.  Environment Agency - A presentation will be given on the Carlisle Flood Defence Scheme, flood warnings and how people can help themselves in the event of further flooding

2.  Local issues and updates - Residents will have an opportunity to feed back to local councillors, community police officers and local authority officers on any issue of concern

3.  Grants to voluntary organisations 

The forum will meet in Longtown Community Centre on Wednesday 30th November at 7pm
