Three Cumbrian teachers are in line for a prestigious teaching award at this years national teaching awards ceremony to be held in London later this month.
Angela Rawlinson from St James CE Junior School in Barrow, Pamela Bolton from Vickerstown Primary in Barrow and Christine Palmer from Inglewood Infants in Carlisle are already regional winners for the North East and Cumbria. They will now join the other 131 regional winners from across the country at the national ceremony hosted by TV presenter Eamonn Holmes.
The Teaching Awards aim to recognise and reward the outstanding achievements of the teaching profession. The Awards ceremony will honour the success of every category winner.
County councillor Philip Chappelhow, cabinet spokesman for children's services said:
"This is a wonderful achievement. Teachers inspire young people and I am delighted the work of three Cumbrian teachers has been recognised in this way."
Each year school communities from across the Country are asked to nominate their most outstanding headteachers, teachers and teaching assistants for a Teaching Award. After being nominated, awards panels shortlist nominees from the thousands of entries received. Panel councillors then visit shortlisted nominees in their schools to observe them in their classrooms and to meet representatives from the whole school community.
The Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday 16th October 2005 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London at 3.30pm. It will be televised on BBC 2 at 6.30pm on the same day.
