Cumbria County Council Chief Executive Peter Stybelski will be presenting awards at a special ceremony to honour the work of volunteers across the county.
The Year of the Volunteer honours medals are being presented by Peter Stybelski and James Cropper, Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, at a special ceremony starting at 6.30pm at Rheged Centre near Penrith on Wednesday, 2nd November.
The Year of the Volunteer is a nationwide campaign to recognise the important role volunteering plays in Britain and will see the award of 2,005 honours medals which have been specially made by the Royal Mint.
Mr Stybelski said: "The voluntary sector plays such an important role here in Cumbria. Thousands of people across the county selflessly give their time to make a difference to individuals and communities. The 28 medals being awarded on Wednesday recognise the contribution of just a handful of the people here who give so freely of themselves to help others."
In addition to the 28 medals being awarded, ten special certificates of recognition will be given on Wednesday night to ten organisations or individuals each nominated by a member of the county council's cabinet.
A list of the Cumbrian honours medal recipients is attached to this e-mail and the list of cabinet nominations for certificates of recognition appears in the Notes for Editors.
