Family Learning Week is a national campaign that raises awareness of the importance and scope of family learning. It aims to strengthen communities and to create more opportunities for the family to learn together. The Campaign for Learning launched the first national Family Learning Day in 1998. This became Family Learning Weekend in 1999 and Family Learning Week for 2004.

Philip Chappelhow, Cumbria County Council spokesman for Childrens Services and Lifelong Learning says:

"Family Learning Week is about encouraging parents to enhance their children’s learning. Schools, the library and adult education services, and the many organizations involved in the County Council’s Family Learning Week events all provide some wonderful opportunities for parents to get actively involved in their child’s learning.

The County Council is equally committed to lifelong learning and these events are also a great chance for parents to learn about the courses and development opportunities available for them."
