Carlisle United stars will help present the Carlisle winners of Cumbria County Council’s Library Service’s "Reading Voyage" with their prizes at Brunton Park today and tomorrow.
Certificates will be presented to everyone who completed the Reading Voyage during the summer holidays. The presentations will take place on Wednesday 5th Oct from 16.45 and Thursday 6th Oct from 16.45.
Over 100 children are expected at each event.
The winners of the Reading Voyage prize draw will also receive their awards. Kieran Morris aged 9 from Carlisle Library was the lucky winner in the Carlisle group and chose a bike as his prize. He will be presented with it at the 4.45 event on Wednesday. Seven runners up will also receive £5 book tokens.
The Reading Voyage offered children inspiration and incentives to read at least six books over the holidays. Everyone who joined got a Voyage Log that they used to record the books they read and chart their opinions along the way. On finishing the challenge children qualified for a certificate and were automatically entered into a draw to win a bike or an iPOD. Around 800 Children started the voyage and over 320 finished in the Carlisle group.
County Councillor Roger Bingham, spokesman for the Library Service says:
"Its important that children are kept interested in books, particularly over the long summer holidays. The Reading Voyage proved an excellent way to keep children reading and I am delighted that so many took up the challenge."
