Cumbria County Council's local committee for Eden today approved grants totalling more than £2,000 to organisations providing social care projects in the area.
The five separate organisations set to receive a welcome boost from the grants are as follows:
1. Penrith & District Volunteer Transport - £750 towards rental costs for garaging two vehicles
2. Age Concern Eden - £500 towards a Falls Prevention Programme in Shap
3. Senior's Exercise Class - £750 room hire in Appleby
4. East Cumbria Family Support Association - £135 Healthy Eating Day in Kirkby Thore
5. Eden Citizen's Advice Bureau - £200 room hire in Appleby
County councillor Gary Strong, chairman of the local committee said:
"Groups like these provide services to many of the most vulnerable people in society and help to promote independence and social inclusion for young and old alike. It can sometimes be very difficult for them to secure even small amounts of funding for projects that really do make a difference within our local communities so I am very pleased that this committee continues to give them support."
