25/1/2006 - Special forum meeting to discuss Broad Street/Petteril Street play area

Residents and children in the St Aidans area will have an opportunity to hear about the possible development planned for the Broad Street and Petteril Street play area at a special neighbourhood forum meeting.

Residents have raised concerns about the play area at previous forum meetings and will be able to talk to city council officers about the proposals when the forum meets on Wednesday 1st February at 6.30pm at Greystone Community Centre.   The county council's forum has already earmarked £5,500 for the development.

County councillor Reg Watson, chairman of the forum said:

"There has been concern raised by residents about the lack of facilities for 7-10 year olds in this area.   The Broad Street and Petteril Street park has the potential to be developed as there is a big area within it that is currently lying unused.   This could be utilised and made into a mini football pitch for the younger children to use.

Melbourne Park's flood lit football pitch is also going to be developed which, would be ideal for older children and adults but would not be suitable for younger children as it is too far away.   It is so important to make sure that the children in this area have the facilities available to them to play safely and I hope that parents and their children take the time to come along on Wednesday to find out more."

Children are welcome to come along to the meeting with their parents to air their views about what facilities they would like to see developed in the area.
