19/7/2006 - Safety tops Keswick & District Neighbourhood Forum agenda

Safety issues are high on the agenda of the next Keswick & District Neighbourhood Forum which takes place in the Crosthwaite Parish Room on Wednesday 26 July at 7:00pm

Cumbria’s Chief Fire Officer Bernard Dolan will be joined by other senior Fire and Rescue Service officers to answer questions about the county’s fourth annual draft Action Plan - in particular those aspects of it which directly affect Keswick and the surrounding area.

Members of the public are being asked for their views on the plan which will enable Cumbria’s Fire & Rescue Service to save more lives by making sure it has the right people and equipment in the right places at the right time.

The Fire and Rescue Service’s Andrew Sedgwick will then explain about the free Home Safety Checks which are now available to households across Cumbria. Two in every three people who die in fires do so before the Fire and Rescue Service is even called - making it a priority for Cumbrian firefighters to try and make sure everyone, especially people in high risk groups, knows what to do to reduce their risk.

There will also be a presentation on firefighters’ efforts to increase road safety awareness.

Finally, there will be the opportunity to listen to representatives from local groups applying to the forum for a grant, to share or publicise any local information and raise any other issues.

Free refreshments will be served by Keswick Fair Trade and everyone is welcome.   Please call Neighbourhood Development Officer Pat Ackred on 01900 325013 if you require additional information.
