Thousands of vulnerable people across Cumbria are receiving quality home improvement advice thanks to an independent living service provided through Cumbria County Council in partnership with five of the county's district councils .
That is the verdict of Foundations, the National Body for Home Improvement Agencies, which has awarded a prestigious Quality Mark to Anchor Staying Put Cumbria - a not-for-profit agency which the county council uses to arrange repairs, improvements and adaptations to the homes of older and disabled people who want to continue living independently.
Secretary of State for Work and Pensions John Hutton MP will be presenting the Quality Mark award at the offices of Anchor Staying Put in Barrow on Friday 23 June.
Print and broadcast media are invited to attend the presentation at the agency's Abbey Road Office which will be held at 2:45pm. Interviews with people who have been helped by the agency in Cumbria can be arranged in advance.
County councillor Oliver Pearson, Cabinet member responsible for Adult Social Care, says the Quality Mark is a big boost for the service which helped more than 2,800 people in Cumbria last year. "Cumbria County Council is committed to helping older and disabled people to live independent lives. A key part of that means making sure people have access to the sort of reliable home improvement advice which our partners Anchor Staying Put offers," he said.
Anchor Staying Put provides services to vulnerable people in partnership with Cumbria County Council, Copeland Borough Council, Barrow Borough Council, Carlisle City Council, Eden District Council and South Lakeland District Council.
