22/6/2006 - Nightshift to tackle Barrow's Jubilee Bridge

The Jubilee Bridge between Barrow and Walney Island will be closed between 11.30pm on Tuesday, June 27th and  6am on June 28th for essential maintenance work.

Cumbria Highways engineers will be working on the central plate of the lifting span of the bridge. 

Work is being carried out at night to keep disruption to a minimum, but drivers wanting to cross between 11.30pm on the Tuesday and 6am on the Wednesday may have to wait for at least 20 minutes. The bridge will be opened immediately in the event of an emergency. 

If the work cannot be completed during this period the process will be repeated  over the night of the 28/29th June
