Soapstar Helen Flanaghan (Coronation Street’s Rosie Webster) will be presenting awards to over 40 looked after children and young people this Sunday.
This year Cumbria County Council’s annual celebration day for children and their carers supported by the Children’s Rights Service, will take place at the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal on Sunday 12 March.
The theme of the day is Circus; everyone has been invited to dress up and the afternoon will include a circus skills workshop. The event is planned and presented by the young people themselves and will include an Awards Ceremony where each child and young person shares their achievements. These achievements will also form a big part of the ever popular balloon release. It is hoped the balloons carrying details of each persons achievements will beat the previous winner which reached Dresden in Germany.
The day will also include a poetry competition hosted by Marvin Cheeseman a professional poet who has appeared at the Edinburgh festival and on Channel 4.
County councillor Philip Chappelhow, cabinet member for Childrens Services says:
“This is a very special day. Everyone at Cumbria County Council is committed to giving the support and care that the young people we look after need and deserve. We are very proud of their achievements over the last year and are delighted to be celebrating with them on Sunday. I hope everyone enjoys the day.”
