9/3/2006 - City centre parking tops Castle forum agenda

The next meeting of the Castle Neighbourhood Forum will provide an opportunity for local residents to talk about city centre parking.

Jim Smith, Area Engineer with Cumbria County Council, and Service Development Manager Keith Poole from Carlisle City Council will be at the meeting to discuss parking issues and answer any queries that residents might have.

The meeting will take place in the Assembly Room at the Old Town Hall in Carlisle on Wednesday 15 March at 7pm.

Steven O'Keefe from the Crime and Disorder Partnership will also be at the meeting to give an update on the alleygates project.  This looks at putting gates across back lanes to prevent crime, anti-social behaviour and substance misuse.  Only residents and organisations that  need access to the alleys will have keys to open the gates.

Local County Councillor Geoff Hodgson will be at the meeting.  He said:

"Car parking in the city centre is something that always generates a lot of discussion with local residents, so I would urge them to take this opportunity to come along, give their views and raise any issues they might have."

Grant applications will also be dealt with at the meeting, so any group looking for funding from the General, Youth or Social Care budgets should contact the Carlisle Area Support Team as soon as possible for an application form.  The team is at Lower Gaol Yard, The Courts, Carlisle CA3 8NA.  The telephone number is 01228 606730.

You can also contact the Area Support Team to find out more about forum meetings.
