30/11/2006 - Kids can cycle with Santa in cycling for 'elf initiative

Children in the Workington area are being invited to help Santa get fit he heads into his busiest time of the year.

Santa will be asking families to join him for a short, free and fun family cycle ride from Workington Leisure Centre on Sunday, 3rd December, at 1pm.

Santa and some elves will be giving out gifts to the children after the cycle ride to say thank you helping with his get-fit-for-Christmas campaign.

Any families wanting to give Santa some encouragement in his bid to get fit should bring their bikes to Workington Leisure Centre to start the ride at 1pm.

All Children should be accompanied by an adult and should wear clothing appropriate for the weather. The ride will last no longer than one hour and will take place on the great traffic free cycleways around Workington.

Nikki Campbell, head elf & Cycling for Health Officer for Cumbria County Council and Cumbria Primary Care Trust, said: "Santa realises that just like most other people he really ought to get more excercise and he thinks that cycling is a fun and inexpensive way to keep fit.

"He'd love it if families came along to support him in his bid to get fit for Christmas and he’s promised to bring along some presents to give away to any children that join him on his ride too."
