A mystery which started off as a passing question from BBC Radio Cumbria's Breakfast presenter Gordon Swindlehurst has finally been solved thanks to quick-witted listeners.
When talking about the new Welcome to Cumbria book for migrant workers Gordon Swindlehurst wondered aloud on air yesterday morning which lake was featured on the cover of the book.
The photograph was taken from a series of stock shots of the Cumbrian landscape which belong to the county council, but there was no record of which lake was featured in the picture.
Radio Cumbria helped out by publishing the photo on their website and around a dozen eagle-eyed Radio Cumbria fans identified the photo as a view of Thirlmere.
"My initial thoughts on air were that it was a shot of Ennerdale, but the level of detail in the responses from listeners was astounding. People identified from the shadows across the water that it couldn't be an east/west running lake such as Ennerdale and it had to be a lake that runs from North to South. I was struck by how lovely a picture it was and was just curious where it came from."

The image (jpeg) shows a photo submitted by Radio Cumbria listener Ann Bowker showing the same landscape from the slopes of Steel Fell.
