Plumbland Village Hall is the venue for the next meeting of the North Allerdale Community Board which gets underway on Thursday 9 August, at 7:15pm.
North Allerdale is one of five areas in Cumbria piloting the idea of Community Boards which are have been set up to put more power in the hands of local people.
At its meeting next Thursday, the Board will hear a progress report from the area's new Community Steward who they agreed to appoint at their inaugural meeting in June, this year.
Joe Wattleworth from Silloth agreed to trial the new post and has brought a wealth of local knowledge as his previous job involved organising highways maintenance in the area.
Since taking on the role of looking after the parishes of Silloth, Holme Low, Holme East Waver and Holme Abbey, Joe has been concentrating on four main areas: Inspection (Highways, rights of way, lighting and environment), building community pride, providing the community "eyes and ears", and small scale jobbing work.
Commenting ahead of his report to the North Allerdale Community board, Joe Wattleworth said: "It's been a busy time, with requests for work direct from the public as well as from parish councils and area inspectors.
"I've also been putting myself about and spotting odd jobs that need doing such as strimming grass, cutting back overgrowth that's been covering road signs and uncovering buried gully tops.
"It's helping us work out what's possible and what the community wants and needs."
Community Board meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend.
