Cumbria County Council is teaming up with one of Carlisle's biggest shopping centres to offer a week-long reading extravaganza.
The city's main library is located in the Lanes Shopping Centre and from 20th-25th August, librarians will be joining forces with retailers to promote the joys of reading in a special book festival for children called Reading Comes Alive.
Throughout the week, librarians will be staffing a stall in the Central Square of the Lanes where, from 10:00am to 4:30pm, they will be promoting the benefits of free library membership which unlocks the door to more than 1.4 million books, music CDs and films.
Shoppers will also get the the chance to listen to tales from authors and storytellers in various shops throughout the week. The special 20 minute storytelling sessions will be running from 10:30am, 12:30pm and 3:30pm on selected dates in each of the following stores:
Monday 20 August - Jean Hilton (storyteller) in New Look
Tues 21 Aug - Dominic Kelly (storyteller) in Fat Face
