14/8/2007 - Windermere library delivers passage to India

A festival of Indian culture is coming to Windermere library next week (Monday 20 August).

The Under the Sky Cultural Diversity Festival will feature dance, food, costumes and Henna hand painting.

Organised by Cumbria County Council’s Library Service, the day-long event is a chance for people to learn more about one of the oldest cultures on the planet and how it plays a major part in modern British life.

Entry to the festival is free and includes:

Dance workshops and performances

Indian food tasting

Bindi decoration

Traditional Indian costumes

Henna hand painting (using natural henna, not chemical)

Councillor Roger Bingham, cabinet member responsible for the county council’s Library Service, said: “You only have to listen to both languages to realise that the Indian and British cultures are intertwined.

“This festival celebrates the continuing close relationship between our two cultures and also recognises the valued contribution made every day by Indians to modern Britain.”
