Over 230,000 homes across the county will be receiving a brochure this week (w/c Monday 13 August), filled with hundreds of adult education course ideas.
Cumbria County Council has just launched its latest annual brochure, containing details of over 800 courses taking place at 40 adult education centres and 150 'outreach' venues throughout the county.
There are courses to help you find out more about subjects and activities you already love, or ones that you fancy trying for the first time.
And this year many courses are being specifically offered with employers and employees in mind - so you can learn a new skill to help you get a job, or improve the skills you already use at work. These courses include NVQs in IT, Business Administration, Customer Service, and Teaching Assistant.
Also on offer are courses in sports and leisure, family learning, and 'Skills for Life' - which as well as basic English and Maths includes English for speakers of other languages.
If you are looking to learn something new as a hobby, rather than for work, there are any number of different courses to choose from. Somewhere across the county you will find courses ranging from Indian Cuisine to Italian Opera, Guitar Playing and Singing in Harmony, through to Art for the Terrified, Beginners Ballroom Dancing and T'ai Chi.
The new brochure features details on each course, where it will be held, how many weeks it runs for and whether it is a daytime or evening course.
In fact, there are so many courses going on around the county that this year the new brochure has only got room for courses running during the Autumn term (September to December). For information about courses running after Christmas, go to the new adult education website at www.cumbriaadulteducation.org or telephone the centre nearest you.
Charles Searle is the county council's Senior Education Officer for adult learning. He said:
"As always, there is an amazingly wide choice of courses in this new brochure - whether it's your brain or your body that you want to get moving!
"It really is worth taking time to read through the brochure to find out exactly what's on offer near you as I am sure you will find something that suits and, who knows, it may change your life forever."
