Children with special needs in the south of the county will be treated to a circus skills workshop next week (Wednesday, 29th August).
Parents, carers and siblings will all be able to try their hands (and feet) at the afternoon's activities, which will include juggling, plate spinning, unicycling, stilt walking, flower/devil sticks, diabolo, pedal-go balance toys, prop building, performance skills, circus games and exercises.
There will also be parachute games and skills, the "Inside Out Soccer School" and, weather permitting, an inflatable assault course and giant games. All the activities are inclusive of all ages and abilities. It's all designed to help encourage co-ordination, balance and concentration in a fun, safe environment.
The day is part of a series of events organised by Cumbria County Council's Children with Disabilities Team and has been part funded through generous bequests from local charities, including Sir John Fisher Foundation, The Furness Lions, Barrow Thornbarrow and Furness Building Society. The activity days have been generously supported by the free use of the facilities at BAE Sports Club and the support of Lis Kenyon and her volunteers.
Carol Abernethy, Cumbria County Council's Team Manager for Children With Disability, said:
"This should be a great day for anyone who's ever harboured a secret ambition to enter the circus ring. It will be a fun way of developing skills and I hope everyone attending enjoys their day."
