3/12/2007 - Classroom stalwarts awarded for their loyalty

Some of Cumbria's most loyal headteachers, teachers and school support workers are to be recognised in Long Service Awards for the county council's Children's Services directorate today (December 3rd).

Everyone who has completed 35 years of service for the county council wins a Long Service Award - which is a prize chosen by the recipient worth £350 (£10 for every year's service). This year's prizes include a sea kayak, a landscape painting and a carved coffee table.

A presentation ceremony will be held at Tullie House Museum, Carlisle this lunchtime (Monday 3rd December). There will be a photo and broadcast media opportunity at 12.00pm. The awards will be presented by the county council's Chairman Alan Toole and Director of Children's Services Moira Swann.

This year, 19 people who work in Children's Services all around the county will be presented the award. They include 2 headteachers (Askam Village School and St Columba’s Catholic Primary School in Barrow), 11 teachers, 3 school support staff and 3 working in other areas of children's services. A second ceremony for all other county council directorates will be held on December 13th.
