Some of Cumbria's most loyal headteachers, teachers and children's services support workers have been recognised in an awards ceremony held for people who have worked for the county council's Children's Services directorate for more than 35 years.
The Long Service Awards were held yesterday (December 3rd) at Tullie House Museum, Carlisle. Former county council Chairman Allan Caine presented the awards after current Chairman Alan Toole came down with a bout of illness on the morning. He was joined by the county council's Chief Executive Peter Stybelski and Director of Children's Services Moira Swann.
Cllr Allan Caine said:
"It was a privilege to step up to the plate at the last minute and meet the people who have given their careers to furthering the cause of Cumbria's children. A whole generation has benefited from the hard work and dedication shown by these people in educating and looking after our young people."
Moira Swann said:
"The total number of years service cumulated by the people who received an award totalled 665 - that's a lot of experience gathered in one room. Many are in the golden period of their careers and still going strong. We wish them all the best for the future and thank them for all the effort they've put in so far."
Notes
Everyone who has completed 35 years of service for the county council wins a Long Service Award - which is a prize chosen by the recipient worth £350 (£10 for every year's service). This year's prizes include a sea kayak, a landscape painting and a carved coffee table. The image (jpeg) shows the winners.
The image shows those who work in Children's Services all around the county that were presented the award. They included 2 headteachers (Askam Village School and St Columba’s Catholic Primary School in Barrow), 11 teachers, 3 school support staff and 3 working in other areas of children's services. A second ceremony for all other county council directorates will be held on December 13th.
